Destin American Legion Post 296 Oratorical Chairman Jim Wood attended the National High School Oratory Scholarship Competition at Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Mich., on May 18-19, 2024. The local Post’s competitor was William Kiker from Fort Walton Beach High School, the winner of the local Post 296 competition and ultimately the Florida State/Department Championship. On Jan. 5, 2024, William Kiker from Fort Walton Beach High School won the American Legion Post 296 competition for the American Legion High School Oratory Scholarship Program. On March 30, we traveled down to Orlando for the State/Department Championship. William was victorious over five other finalists from across the State of Florida. For his efforts, William was awarded a $2500 scholarship. The next step is the National Championship scheduled for May 17-19, in Hillsdale, Michigan. At this event,

On Jan. 5, 2024, Davis-Sikes, Destin American Legion Post 296 hosted its local competition for the National High School Oratory Scholarship Program.
