On May 7, the Destin Chamber celebrated the graduation of 16 business professionals from its 18th Destin Forward class. During the event, the prestigious Destin Forward Leadership Award, chosen by class vote, was presented to Kyle Davis of Integrity Financial Group. Destin American Legion Post 296 Announces Destin's Cole Rewis to Attend 2025 Boy’s Nation Program
Mr. Cole Rewis of Destin recently completed the Florida American Legion Boy’s State Program in Tallahassee on June 15-21, 2025. A total of 512 boys from across the State of Florida attended. Of those 512 Boys, two are selected to represent the State of Florida at Boy’s Nation, July 18-25, 2025, in Washington DC. Cole was one of the two selected. Local Student Wins 2025 State Oratorical Championship
On March 15, 2025, local American Legion Post 296 representative William Kiker from Fort Walton Beach High School won the State Championship for the 2024-2025 National High School Oratorical Scholarship Competition. The event was held at the Florida American Legion Headquarters in Orlando Fla. Kiker was awarded a $2,500 dollar scholarship and will now compete in the National Championship in Hillsdale, Mich., on May 16-18. This is his second State Championship, having won last year. Destin American Legion Post 296 Oratorical Chairman Jim Wood attended the National High School Oratory Scholarship Competition at Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Mich., on May 18-19, 2024. The local Post’s competitor was William Kiker from Fort Walton Beach High School, the winner of the local Post 296 competition and ultimately the Florida State/Department Championship. Required speeches centered around the US Constitution in varying lengths from eight to ten minutes and three to five minutes,
