On Jan. 5, 2024, William Kiker from Fort Walton Beach High School won the American Legion Post 296 competition for the American Legion High School Oratory Scholarship Program. On March 30, we traveled down to Orlando for the State/Department Championship. William was victorious over five other finalists from across the State of Florida. For his efforts, William was awarded a $2500 scholarship. The next step is the National Championship scheduled for May 17-19, in Hillsdale, Michigan. At this event, the top three winners will receive scholarships of $20,000, $22,000 and $25,000. The Fort Walton Beach High School Debate Class led by Mrs. Katrina Brownsberger has been a great supporter of our oratory program, and we look forward to many more years of partnering to enhance and further develop her students.
