Fenner Ride is held annually in memory of Dr. Fenner McConnell and Matt Wantz, both passionate cyclists and former members of the West Florida Wheelmen.
Dr. McConnell, a medical examiner for a four-county district in the Panhandle, was tragically killed in 1998 by a hit-and-run driver while cycling across the Bob Sikes Bridge. Matt Wantz was fatally injured while working in a local bike shop.
In honor of Dr. McConnell, who was known for his signature bowties, participants are encouraged to wear a bowtie during the ride as a meaningful tribute.
