SINFONIA GULF COAST YOUTH ORCHESTRA HOSTS

ACCELERANDO SUMMER STRINGS INTENSIVE

June 9–20 | 9 a.m.–12 p.m. | Destin High School Band Auditorium
Open to Ages 7–18 | Limited to 40 Students

DESTIN, FL (May 19, 2025) — Sinfonia Gulf Coast Youth Orchestra invites young string musicians to take their skills to the next level this summer through Accelerando, a two-week summer intensive designed for students who have completed an After School Beginning Strings course or reached page 25 in Essential Elements Book 1. This immersive music experience will run from June 9–20, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., at Destin High School’s Band Auditorium.

Accelerando is ideal for students ages 7–18 who are ready to build upon the fundamentals learned in After School Beginning Strings. Through a creative curriculum of singing, games, and hands-on instrument instruction, students will reinforce their technique while learning fun new music. The program will culminate with a final demonstration on the last day, giving students a chance to showcase their progress and share their accomplishments with family and friends.

“We’re excited to offer Accelerando as the next step in our music education pipeline,” said Margaret Gordon, music director and coordinator of education and community engagement. “It’s a joyful and focused environment where students continue developing skills while having a blast with peers.”

The cost for the full two-week session is $275, which includes daily instruction and participation in the culminating concert. Enrollment is limited to 40 students to ensure a quality learning experience and will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Since it was established in 2007, Sinfonia Gulf Coast has served more than 220,000 children in Okaloosa and Walton Counties. SYO programs include the Advanced Symphonic Orchestra, for intermediate to advanced (All-State level) middle and high school student musicians who play strings, winds, brass, and percussion; Sinfonietta Strings, open to beginning string students; and Intermediate Symphonic Orchestra, open to intermediate string, wind, brass, and percussion players. SYO will open auditions for 2025-2026 in June.
