Sinfonia Gulf Coast invites audiences to experience Jaws in Concert on Friday, May 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Destin–Fort Walton Beach Convention Center.
Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the concert hall, Steven Spielberg’s Academy Award-winning 1975 thriller returns in a thrilling new format. Jaws in Concert pairs the full-length film, projected in HD on the big screen, with a live performance of John Williams’ legendary score by Sinfonia Gulf Coast—performed in perfect synchronization with the action onscreen.
From the first ominous notes to the film’s heart-pounding climax, audiences will relive the suspense, the terror and the unforgettable music that forever changed the way we view the ocean. Widely regarded as one of the greatest film scores of all time, Williams’ music becomes a character of its own heightening every moment of tension and triumph.
“We love presenting these film-in-concert experiences because they create an entirely new way to experience movies audiences already know and love,” said Music & Artistic Director Demetrius Fuller. “Hearing this iconic score performed live alongside the film is powerful, immersive and unforgettable. In his program note, composer John Williams reflected on the now-famous two-note motif that helped define the movie’s suspense:
“It was fun and it seemed to have worked.”
He added that it remains thrilling to see the film continue to capture audiences’ imaginations and to be performed live in concert with orchestras around the world. With a career spanning more than six decades, Williams is one of the most celebrated composers in film history, known for iconic scores including Star Wars, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones. His longtime collaboration with director Steven Spielberg has produced some of cinema’s most enduring works.
Now, for the first time, Emerald Coast audiences have the chance to experience the full score of Jaws performed live in sync with one of the greatest motion pictures of all time.
