Saltwater Restaurants announced today that its Bites for Backpacks initiative has raised $2,985 to date for the Food for Thought Outreach mission. The campaign, which launched earlier this summer, supports the organization’s work to fight food insecurity in Okaloosa and Walton counties.
Participating restaurants, including The Crab Trap in Destin and at The Boardwalk on Okaloosa Island, Surf Hut, Rockin’ Tacos, and Floyd’s Shrimp & Steak House, have contributed to the effort through specialty menu items and promotions. Notably, $1 from every Lobster Bites appetizer sold goes directly to Food for Thought to help fill backpacks with nutritious food for local students.
The fundraising push continues through mid-August, helping Food for Thought Outreach prepare for the upcoming school year.
“This is a cause that’s close to our hearts,” said Nick Sarra, CEO of Saltwater Restaurants. “Our community is strongest when our children are nourished and ready to learn. We are proud to support Food for Thought in its essential mission.”
Food for Thought Outreach provides weekly backpacks filled with healthy food to students who rely on free or reduced-price school meals. To contribute or learn more, visit fftfl.org.
