Renee Fennell Larkey Promoted to Okaloosa County Clerk's Inspector General

The Okaloosa County Clerk of Court’s Office is pleased to announce Renee Fennell Larkey as the New Inspector General. Renee was promoted from Deputy Inspector General to the position of Inspector General by the honorable JD Peacock.

As the Inspector General, Renee oversees and directs the internal audit and investigative functions of the Clerk of Court and the Board of County Commissioners. Renee provides counsel and advice to county officials on matters related to internal and external audits, investigative reports, and other related recommendations. She is charged with assuring the Clerk of Courts and the Board of County Commissioners remain proactive in compliance with governmental statutes and accounting.

Renee has been with the Okaloosa County Clerk’s office for more than 7 years and spent the first part of her career as the Clerk to the Board of County Commissioners. In 2020, Renee was promoted to Auditor/Investigator with the Department of Inspector General where she was tasked to investigate allegations of potential fraud, waste, and abuse of government resources, and conduct audits for both Clerk and County departments. In January of 2024, Renee was promoted to Deputy Inspector General, taking on supervisory duties. Prior to working at the Okaloosa County Clerk’s office, Renee was a sworn law enforcement officer with the Valparaiso Police Department for four years, and a sworn Deputy/Investigator with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office for seven years.

Renee earned her Bachelor of Science in Management from the University of West Florida. She also holds a Master of Public Administration from Troy State University. Adding to her already extensive background, Renee is a Certified Inspector General, Certified Inspector General Investigator, Certified Inspector General Auditor, Certified Fraud Examiner, Certified Economic Crime Forensic Examiner, Certified Financial Crimes Investigator, and is the current Accreditation Manager.
