The 2024 Art in the Capitol Competition showcases the incredible talent of middle school students across the state. This voluntary, statewide visual arts competition invites students in grades 6–8 to submit their creative works for a chance to be displayed in Florida’s Capitol during the 2025 legislative session. Artwork from Okaloosa County students was evaluated by a panel of elementary and high school art teachers, who judged the 14 remarkable submissions received from local students.
The winners of this year’s competition are:
• Best of Show: Drake Harris, Ruckel Middle School (pictured here)
• 1st Place: McKenzie Winger, Shoal River Middle School
• 2nd Place: Sophia Perez, Shoal River Middle School
• 3rd Place: Isabella Welling, Ruckel Middle School
Superintendent Marcus Chambers expressed his pride in the students’ achievements, stating, “We are so proud of the creativity and talent demonstrated by these young artists. Their artwork reflects their dedication and passion and serves as a testament to the strength of the arts in Okaloosa County Schools. Congratulations to our winners for this well-deserved recognition!”
