Northwest Florida State College Earns Prestigious Collegiate Purple Star Campus Designation

Northwest Florida State College (NWFSC) has been officially designated as a Florida Collegiate Purple Star Campus Designation by the Florida Department of Education. The designation recognizes NWFSC’s steadfast commitment to supporting active-duty military members, veterans, and their families throughout their academic journey.

“The Collegiate Purple Star Campus Designation is a reflection of our deep-rooted commitment at Northwest Florida State College to those men and women who serve and have served our nation,” said NWFSC President Mel Ponder. “We understand the unique challenges military students and their families face, and we are honored to provide an environment where they can thrive academically, personally, and professionally. We’re extremely proud to be recognized as a Purple Star Campus and remain fully committed to serving those who have sacrificed so much for our freedom. It is indeed an honor.”

The Collegiate Purple Star Campus Designation, signed into law by Governor Ron DeSantis in June 2023, honors Florida institutions that go above and beyond to assist military-connected students as they transition into the college environment. The College complied with several requirements including a student-led transition program, priority registration for military students and their families and professional development for staff related to issues impacting military students.

Northwest Florida State College will hold the designation as a Collegiate Purple Star Campus for three (3) academic calendar years.

Earlier this year, NWFSC was also named a Gold-Level Military Friendly School following an independent evaluation of more than 1,800 colleges and universities across the United States.
