Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Florida Announces 2024 Virginia Thomas Big of the Year in Bay County

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Florida proudly announces Jacqueline Crow as the recipient of the 2024 Virginia Thomas Big of the Year award in Bay County. This prestigious accolade is given to a Big who has made an exceptional difference in their Little's life, embodying the core values and mission of our organization.

Jacqueline and her Little Sister Naomi have shared a remarkable bond since being matched in 2020. Despite the challenges of her military career, Jacqueline has consistently made time for Naomi over the past four years, building a strong and meaningful relationship. When they were first matched, Naomi, then just 8 years-old, was affectionately described by her mother as strong-willed. Jacqueline has approached this trait with care and patience, encouraging Naomi to channel her strength and emerge as a leader. Together, they participate in a variety of activities ranging from holiday traditions to community service projects, instilling in Naomi the importance of giving back and being an active participant in her community.

In a recent interview, Jacqueline highlighted the importance of being a constant presence in a child's life, stating, "Your presence is really all that matters to these kids. Being consistent and being constant." She truly embodies this philosophy, nurturing Naomi's growth and well-being. Naomi's mother echoes this sentiment, expressing deep gratitude, saying, "Jacqueline has become part of our family, she is protective, loving, and caring, and treats Naomi as her own. My two other children adore her as well."

In addition to her role as a supportive Big, Jacqueline is a dedicated advocate for BBBS. She regularly participates in our events and recently joined our volunteer recruitment committee to help address our growing need for mentors.

Jacqueline exemplifies the mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Florida, as well as the vision of philanthropist Virginia Thomas, the namesake of this award. Thomas was passionate about opening doors and creating new opportunities for children, making a significant impact in the Panama City community. This award honors Thomas's legacy and celebrates a Big who embodies her passion for serving others and making a lasting difference in the lives of young people.

On behalf of the staff and Board at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Florida, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Jacqueline Crow for her commitment to empowering youth and providing Naomi with the tools she needs to reach her full potential.
