HCA Florida Twin Cities Hospital has earned the prestigious Pathway to Excellence® designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), recognizing the hospital’s commitment to creating a positive practice environment where nurses are empowered, engaged and supported in delivering high-quality patient care.
The designation, announced Aug. 14, places HCA Florida Twin Cities Hospital among a select group of healthcare organizations worldwide to achieve Pathway to Excellence recognition. Twin Cities Hospital is the only hospital in the Florida Panhandle to hold the prestigious designation.
The recognition is the hospital’s latest national distinction for excellence. Earlier this year, Twin Cities Hospital earned a 5-Star Quality Rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the highest possible CMS rating, the Patient Safety Excellence Award ™ from Healthgrades, the American Heart Association’s Get with the Guidelines ® Silver Plus award for stroke care, and a hospital safety grade of “A” from the Leapfrog group.
Together, the distinctions recognize excellence from complementary perspectives: a nursing environment that supports and empowers caregivers, strong quality and patient outcomes, and a steadfast commitment to patient safety.
“Earning the Pathway to Excellence designation is an extraordinary achievement because it reflects the voices and experiences of our nurses,” said Todd Jackson, CEO of HCA Florida Twin Cities Hospital. “To be the only hospital in the Florida Panhandle to hold this distinction makes it even more meaningful for our colleagues and the community we serve. When you combine Pathway to Excellence with our CMS 5-Star Quality Rating, our Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award and other national recognitions, it tells a powerful story about the culture of excellence at HCA Florida Twin Cities Hospital and our team’s unwavering commitment to providing safe, compassionate, high-quality care.”
Recognizing a culture of nursing excellence
The ANCC Pathway to Excellence Program recognizes healthcare organizations that create positive nursing practice environments where nurses have a voice in decision-making, are supported in their professional growth and well-being, and are engaged as partners in achieving quality outcomes.
To earn the designation, healthcare organizations must demonstrate that Pathway standards are integrated into their practices, policies and culture. Nurses also participate in an independent and confidential survey to validate their experiences and confirm that the standards are embedded throughout the facility. The Pathway to Excellence designation is granted for four years.
“This designation is a reflection of our nurses and the culture they help create every day,” said Chief Nursing Officer Morgan Talley. “Our nurses are empowered to have a voice, grow professionally and work collaboratively to provide exceptional care. Being the only Pathway-designated hospital in the Florida Panhandle is a tremendous source of pride for our entire team.”
“These achievements look at excellence through different lenses, but together they reinforce the same message,” Jackson said. “Our patients are at the center of everything we do, and these recognitions reflect the dedication of our colleagues and physicians to improving more lives in more ways.”
