Fort Walton Beach High School Viking Band to Participate in the 2024 Military Bowl

The Fort Walton Beach High School Viking Band has been invited to perform at the 2024 Go Bowling Military Bowl at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland, on Dec. 28, 2024. This would be the band's first performance at a bowl game since 1989.

"We are incredibly excited and honored for the Viking Band to perform at the Military Bowl in December," said Fort Walton Beach High School Principal Lindsey Smith. "Coming from a proud military community, this opportunity means so much to our students, our school, and the entire community. It's a privilege to represent Fort Walton Beach nationally and showcase our talented band while celebrating our deep connection to the military."

As part of the festivities, the 145-member Viking Band will march in the Military Bowl parade, perform the Star-Spangled Banner before the game, and participate in a concert festival with their symphonic band. Noting the band's continued service to the community for the past 54 years, Band Director Derek Fields pointed out that the upcoming trip is a source of excitement for the students and reflects on the program's rich history.

"This standard of excellence was set here long ago, and we're committed to continuing that legacy. It means everything to allow these students to perform on such a large stage," Fields said. "It's an honor to continue this tradition and ensure our students experience something unforgettable."

The Viking Band is raising funds to fuel the Viking Military Bowl Trip. Sponsorships start at $25 to feed the Viking Band for one day during this exciting performance opportunity.
