As the City of Destin continues recovery efforts following Hurricane Isaias, residents are asked to properly separate and place storm-generated debris curbside to help ensure safe and efficient collection.
PLEASE SEPARATE STORM DEBRIS INTO TWO MAIN CATEGORIES:
1. Vegetative Debris
Tree limbs, branches, leaves, logs, shrubs, and other storm-damaged vegetation.
2. Construction and Demolition Debris
Damaged fencing, lumber, roofing materials, siding, drywall, and other storm-damaged building materials.
IMPORTANT CURBSIDE PLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS:
Place debris along the curb or edge of the roadway, without blocking travel lanes, sidewalks, or driveways.
Keep vegetative debris separate from construction and demolition debris. Do not mix debris types in the same pile.
Do not place debris beneath power lines or near utility poles, fire hydrants, water meters, utility boxes, mailboxes, or other structures.
Keep drainage inlets, ditches, and stormwater facilities clear of debris.
Never touch, cut, remove, or place debris on downed power lines. Always assume downed lines are energized.
Do not mix regular household garbage with storm debris.
Keep appliances, electronics, and hazardous materials separate from storm debris piles.
WHY DEBRIS SEPARATION MATTERS
Properly separating debris allows collection crews to work more efficiently, reduces collection delays, and helps expedite recovery efforts throughout the City.
Residents are encouraged to place debris curbside as soon as it is safe to do so and ensure that piles remain accessible to collection equipment.
The City of Destin appreciates your patience and cooperation as we continue working to restore our community following Hurricane Isaias.
