Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Florida Gears up for Annual Cycling Event

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Florida, along with the West Florida Wheelmen Bicycle Club, are getting ready for the annual Fenner Ride. This cycling event will take place on October 29, 2022 at the Clyde L. Gracey Community Center, located at 5629 Byrom St. Milton, Fla.

This ride gives participants a unique chance to experience Northwest Florida's native wildlife, natural environments, and beautiful scenery along the Blackwater Heritage Trail. October is a great time to get outside, enjoy the cooler temperatures, reconnect with nature, and enjoy all that life has to offer.

Participants can choose from four different routes: 18, 42, 62, or 100 miles. Registration is open now until the day of the race. The registration fee for the 18 & 42 mile rides is $45.00. The registration fee for the 62 & 100 mile rides is $50.00. Those fees will increase by $10.00, after October 14, 2022 at 11:59 pm CDT. Sign up by visiting:

BBBSNWFL is welcoming back Flora McConnell Hammond and Carolyn McConnell Reeder as the Presenting Sponsor for this year’s Fenner Ride. This event is dedicated to the memory of their father, Dr. Fenner McConnell, along with Matt Wantz. Dr. McConnell, a medical examiner for a four-county district in the Panhandle, was killed in 1998 by a hit-and-run driver as he rode his bicycle across the Bob Sikes Bridge. Matt Wantz was killed while working in a local bike shop. Both men were avid cyclists and former members of the West Florida Wheelmen Club.

This event benefits BBBSNWFL. The money raised is used to fund the agency’s programs and support current and new matches. Each time Big Brothers Big Sisters pairs a child with a role model, they start something incredible: a one-to-one relationship built on trust and friendship that can blossom into a future of unlimited potential.
