Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Florida is proud to recognize Matt and Tessa Rippon as the 2026 Big Duo of the Year. This honor celebrates mentors who exemplify exceptional dedication, compassion, and commitment to creating meaningful and lasting relationships with youth in our community.
For the past two and a half years, Matt and Tessa have been matched with their Little Brothers, Ja-Zavier, 8, and Ja'Zyin, 9. Throughout that time, they have remained a steady source of encouragement, support, and care through every stage of life and every transition their Littles have faced.
Month after month, the growth within this match has been evident. The compassion, patience, and genuine love Matt and Tessa have for Ja-Zavier and Ja'Zyin shines through in every interaction. Their relationship has continued to strengthen over time, growing into a bond built on trust, consistency, and shared experiences. Like many young boys, Ja-Zavier and Ja'Zyin are energetic, adventurous, and always ready for fun. Matt and Tessa have embraced every moment, creating opportunities for them to learn, grow, and simply enjoy being kids. Together, they have shared countless memories, from afternoons at the park and playing football to exciting outings at Sky Zone trampoline park.
They have also introduced their Littles to new experiences within the community, including visits to local restaurants like Coffee Cup and Cracker Barrel. While these outings may seem simple, Matt and Tessa understand that mentorship is often built through the small moments, showing up consistently, spending quality time together, and making their Littles feel valued and important.
Most recently, Matt and Tessa welcomed a new baby into their family. Even while adjusting to this exciting new chapter in their lives, they continued to show up wholeheartedly for Ja-Zavier and Ja'Zyin. Their continued dedication speaks volumes about the kind of mentors they are and the priority they place on their relationship with their Littles.
To celebrate this extraordinary match, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Florida invited Matt and Tessa to the agency's monthly Governing Board meeting, where they were surprised with the 2026 Big Duo of the Year Award. Our staff shared heartfelt remarks about the impact they have made in the lives of Ja-Zavier and Ja'Zyin before presenting the couple with the award. Surrounded by board members and staff, the surprise served as a fitting tribute to mentors whose commitment continues to change lives.
