During the Destin Chamber’s Sept. 11 Business Before Hours Sponsored by Hand Arendall Harrison Sale, Bernard Johnson was honored with the Chamber’s Lifetime Membership Award. The award was presented by the 2026 Chairman of the Board Monica Wallis of Destin Water Users on behalf of the entire Board in recognition of Johnson’s pending retirement and to thank him for his service to the community and to this organization.
Johnson is Regional Manager of External Affairs for Florida Power & Light, serving communities throughout Northwest Florida. With more than 38 years of experience with FPL and previously Gulf Power, he has held roles in line operations, engineering, customer service, and marketing. Johnson is deeply involved in the community, serving on numerous boards and supporting initiatives focused on economic development, education, workforce development, and quality of life. He is also on the Destin Chamber Board of Directors.
“Anyone who knows Bernard knows what he has meant to FPL, this community, and the numerous organizations his service has touched and affected. His positive attitude is infectious. The Lifetime Membership Award is not something taken lightly by our Board, and it is given to people who have provided elite service to this community. Bernard far exceeds any of those descriptions. I wish him well and hope to continue to see him often,” said Destin Chamber President & CEO Shane A. Moody, CCE, FCCP.
Johnson joins an elite group of Destin Chamber lifetime members, including Helen Donaldson, Fred Fenn, Bill Head, Col. Kim M. Wintner, and Lockwood Wernet.
