The Arc of the Emerald Coast's Second 'Moon Walk' for Disability Awareness

The Arc of the Emerald Coast invites the community to “shine a light” on disability awareness and advocacy at its second annual Moon Walk, Saturday, Nov. 7, at 6 p.m. at the Freedom Tech Center in Fort Walton Beach.

The community-wide event brings together families, friends, nonprofits and advocates for an evening of fun, unity and purpose. Participants will take part in a 100-minute walk around the Freedom Tech Park track in glow-in-the-dark attire, with live music, interactive games, special guests and more under the moon and stars.

“The Moon Walk is going to be a lot of fun, but at its heart, it’s about showing up and walking for those who cannot always walk for themselves,” said Matt Simpson, Director of Marketing and Public Relations for The Arc of the Emerald Coast. “It’s an opportunity for our community to stand together in support of children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and help ensure they have the resources and opportunities they deserve.”

Proceeds from Moon Walk 2 will help The Arc create two new classrooms dedicated to community-based training and life-skills development for an aging population currently unable to be served because of space limitations. The expansion will create capacity for up to 20 additional individuals to access opportunities for learning, empowerment, self-advocacy and inclusion. Funds raised also advance The Arc’s mission to provide a pathway “from disability to capability” through life-changing programs, advocacy and support services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
