HCA Florida Healthcare locations in Northwest Florida are hosting Crush the Crisis prescription drug collections Saturday, Oct. 25, to raise awareness about the dangers of prescription drug misuse and the importance of proper disposal of unused or expired medications. The annual event, which coincides with the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, offers the community safe and anonymous disposal of medications that may be left over from previous procedures or other medical visits.
WHAT: Crush the Crisis – Prescription Drug Take Back Day
HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital, HCA Florida Pea Ridge Emergency and HCA Florida Pine Forest Emergency are participating as part of HCA Healthcare’s 7th annual national Crush the Crisis prescription take back day. Since 2019, HCA Healthcare has helped safely dispose of more than 88,000 pounds of unused or expired medication. The journey continues this year on the road to 100,000 pounds of collected medication.
Law enforcement officers will be collecting tablets, capsules, patches, ointments, lotions, drops, liquid medication (in leak-proof containers) and vape cartridges (without batteries). Pet medications will also be accepted.
Needles, syringes, lancets and liquids will not be accepted.
