City of Destin Hosting Veteran Suicide Prevention Training

The City of Destin has made a commitment to help reduce the suicide rate of our veteran community by encouraging people to become Watch Standers. A Watch Stander is a dedicated individual trained to identify the warning signs of veterans in crisis and to direct those veterans to the help they need.

Partnering with the nonprofit organization The Fire Watch, the City is hosting a free in-person training on Oct. 17, at 6 p.m., at the Destin Library. The sign up link can be found at https://forms.gle/7vdVXdLEn8Y5R581A.

Veterans are 1.5 times more likely to die by suicide compared to non-military U.S. adults.
