The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Emerald Coast – Jacobe Turner Teen Center (Fort Walton Beach) has been selected by Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) to receive a new Innovation Lab, made possible by a $25,000 grant from the James M. Cox Foundation. This funding will transform the designated tech space into a state-of-the-art digital studio where teens can explore projects in digital media, blogs, video editing, graphic design, coding, animation, and more. The Cox Innovation Lab will bridge the digital divide and foster vital STEAM skills in local youth. Super Bowl champion, author, and literacy advocate Malcolm Mitchell will attend to inspire attendees with his commitment to education and digital literacy, and he will share insights about his latest book, A World Within Reach.
This Cox Innovation Lab, part of a national initiative, equips Boys & Girls Clubs with technology to ensure youth access to essential digital skills and STEAM education. This year's launch coincides with the 20th anniversary of Cox's partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America, with over 110 labs opened since 2004. Malcolm Mitchell will also discuss his new children's book, A World Within Reach. The book celebrates discovery and aims to inspire young readers to safely embrace technology to unlock their potential, aligning with his and Cox's commitment to bridging the digital divide through the Connect2Compete program.
