DESCRIPTION:On Jan. 15\, our Tourism Industry Interest Group welcomes Alex Fogg\, Marine Resource Coordinator with Okaloosa County Tourist Development.\n\n\n\nAlex will discuss the origin of Okaloosa County's Marine Resource Program and highlight some of its projects that bolster economic\, tourism and environmental benefits. \n\n\n Learn more about the artificial reef program and Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs)\, both of which are designed to attract and to provide essential habitat for a number of fish species heavily targeted by charter and recreational anglers. \n Discover how the invasive lionfish problem was turned into an opportunity through creation of the largest lionfish specific tournament and festival\, the Emerald Coast Open. \n Finally\, hear about a number of smaller initiatives\, including water quality testing using citizen scientists\, beach cleanups\, and sea turtle lighting.\n\nAnyone involved in a tourism-related business or with an interest in area tourism is welcome to attend. Registration is due by 5 p.m.\, on Monday\, Jan. 13.\n\n\n\nThe Tourism Committee's mission is to bring value to the Destin tourism community through training and information and to become a unified voice of hospitality-based businesses whose success is centered on the tourism industry in our area. \n\n\n\nThe cost is $25 for Destin Chamber members and $50 for non-chamber members. Registration is required\, and no shows will be billed!
